School Development Project – Daylight School

Daylight School is a private elementary school located in a poor farming community of western Kenya. With the lack of available educational facilities in the area, many people have not had the opportunity to attend school, leaving this community largely illiterate and unable to break free from their poverty. The founders of Daylight School felt a growing burden to begin a private elementary school where children could not only learn to read and write, but they could learn in English, which is their preference. They also felt a burden to provide quality education in a Christian environment where the children would receive more nurturing and personal attention.

Since 2000 Daylight School has been in operation, serving the families of their community in this way. They began with pre-school and Kindergarten, and have progressively added grades 1-3. Their hope is to continue to grow, adding grades 4-8 as they are able.

Currently there are almost 200 children attending Daylight School. The school meets on a Daylight School owned piece of land, yet classes are held in temporary buildings made of clay/mud walls and floor, with corrugated metal roofing. Permanent structures, with proper flooring, walls, plumbing and electrical infrastructure is desperately needed. Currently Daylight School is also in need of additional school supplies, textbooks and teachers.

Because of the depressed state of the economy in this area, school tuition is kept to a minimum, which places serious financial hardships on the school. It is also necessary to offer partial scholarships for those unable to afford the school fees such as orphaned children who would not be able to attend school otherwise.

Please continue to Pray –
- for all the children enrolled in Daylight School
- for the continued planning and growth in all areas of the school
- that the teachers would persevere in difficult teaching conditions
